Brenner H-53 - Project Updates

For more than a year, KERN has been supplying Lot H-53 of the Brenner Base Tunnel, the world’s longest underground railway connection, with state-of-the-art tunnel formworks, logistic equipment, and special gantries across multiple sections of the project.

Among our key contributions:

• Fully automated hydrostatic shutters for the main tunnel tubes
• Complete machinery for all enlargement sections, including parament and vault formworks, reinforcement gantries, and logistic system (Multi Service Gantry - MSG with Pallet Carriage System)
• Heavy-duty vault formwork for the emergency stop tunnel
• Special collar formworks for various tunnel intersections
• Cross-passage formworks for multiple cross-sections and different block lengths
• Lifting and rotation platforms for tunnel shutters with 30-ton SWL
• Reinforcement and working gantries
• K-Vertex lifting system with up to 100-ton SWL capacity
• Process simulations and digital method statements produced by our subsidiary, KERN Lab
• Complete on-site service, including initial assembly and acceptance tests, on-site machine transformations, and tight project coordination
• Two sets of KERN’s K-ONE casting system for main tunnel shutters
• Modular MAXIMO wall formworks from PERI
• KERN’s MSG-01 applied across multiple new jobsite locations

We are particularly proud for the successful introduction of our first REVO tunnel formwork gantry, designed and produced using a newly developed modular machine-building methodology.

What makes REVO special:

• Significantly reduced assembly times, with full on-site setup in just 7 days
• Increased overall jobsite productivity and minimized impact on project schedules
• Modular design allows easy transformation for different tunnel geometries or block lengths
• At H-53, two REVO gantries and five sets of modular formwork have been supplied for the complete tunnel enlargement
• The formwork system is designed so that no rails are required

All machines and solutions have been fully designed and engineered by KERN and produced with our long-standing partners.
